Make Wrinkles Disappear with
Neurotoxin Injections.
A combination of factors can cause facial lines. It’s not just about the cellular changes that may occur, reduction of collagen, or damage caused by free radicals from the sun and the environment. Repeated muscle contractions from frowning, squinting, or raising eyebrows cause the skin to furrow and fold, gradually resulting in the formation of facial lines. Botulinum Toxin-A (BTX-A) injections work beneath the surface and temporarily reduce the underlying muscle activity that causes moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines in adults to help them look visibly smoother.
Frown Lines (11’s).
When you frown or concentrate, the muscles between your brows contract, causing your skin to crinkle and fold. Your specialist will inject these muscles to help make frown lines temporarily look better.
For the frown lines area, your specialist will administer several injections into the muscles between your brows and forehead.
Crow’s Feet.
When you squint or smile, the muscles around your eyes contract, causing crow’s feet. Your specialist will inject these muscles to help make crow’s feet temporarily less visible.
For the crow’s feet area, your specialist will inject the areas of the muscles that frame the side of the eye.
Worry Lines
When you raise your eyebrows, the muscles on your forehead contract, causing the skin to furrow and fold. Your specialist will inject these muscles to help make forehead lines temporarily look better.
For the forehead lines area, your specialist will administer several injections into a muscle in your forehead.
Bunny Lines.
Bunny lines are caused by repetitive facial expressions, such as squinting when you wake up in the morning or concentrating and scrunching your forehead to read.
For the frown line area, your specialist will administer a small amount of BTX-A on each side of your nose, to help smooth out these wrinkles.
Platysmal Bands.
Platysmal bands are two strips of muscle that run vertically down both sides of your neck. Commonly referred to as “turkey neck,” platysmal bands are caused by contractions of the platysma muscle layer in the face and neck. When the platysma muscle contracts it causes horizontal necklines and pulls down on the lower face resulting in more pronounced jowls and a loss of jawline definition.
BTX-A can help to restore a more youthful neck contour by relaxing the muscles in the neck.
Smokers Lines
Frequent puckering of your lips during pouting, talking, drinking from a straw or bottle, smoking, and vaping can cause dynamic wrinkles - tiny vertical lines that form across the skin that runs from your upper lip toward your nose.
While filler is commonly used to address concerns related to the lips, BTX-A is necessary to treat more complex issues that result from movement as opposed to simple volume loss.
Botulinum toxin injections.
-
Botulinum toxin targets one of the underlying causes of frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines — the repeated muscle contractions from frowning, squinting, smiling, and raising the eyebrows over the years. Your specialist will inject these muscles with Botulinum toxin to temporarily reduce muscle activity. You will begin to notice a visible smoothing of the frown lines between your brows, crow’s feet lines, and forehead lines.

-
• Botulinum toxin treatments take only a few minutes, depending on the area being treated.
• You may begin to notice results within 24 to 48 hours
Takes about 2 weeks to fully set in
• Usually lasts between 3-6 months.
-
The amount of the medication to be injected depends on the area(s) to be treated and the relative strength of the muscles. Men usually require a higher amount as compared to women.
-
Botulinum toxin injection is a straightforward procedure with no/minimal complications.
The most common side effect is bruising due to the injections. Rare complications include eyelid or brow droop due to the extensive weakening of the supporting muscles.
Systemic side effects, such as altered motor or sensory functions and difficulty breathing, are extremely uncommon.
Other possible side effects include dry mouth; discomfort or pain at the injection site; tiredness; headache; neck pain; eye problems: double vision, blurred vision, decreased eyesight, and dry eyes; and allergic reactions.

Treatment requires minimal downtime, so you can return to your daily routine immediately after you leave your specialist’s office.

FDA approved April 2002
The first FDA-approved treatment to temporarily reduce moderate to severe frown lines, crow's feet, and forehead lines.
It works beneath the surface and temporarily reduces the underlying muscle activity that causes moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines in adults
Benefits: Good for treating all areas — especially small ones (think: crow’s feet)
Onset: 3-5 days
Results Last: 3-4 months
Average Units: 20 for forehead treatment
Drawbacks: Patients may develop antibody resistance over time
-
FDA approved April 2009
Is slightly less potent than Botox®. One unit of BOTOX® has a potency approximately equal to 4 units of Dysport®.
Ideal for treating larger areas (like the forehead) — though more product may be needed to achieve results.
Contains lactose and cow’s milk protein (unsuitable for allergy patients).
While the effects of Dysport® may show up sooner (within 24 hours) than Botox®, they may not last as long. Its shorter lifespan could make it a good choice for patients unsure whether they will like the results of injections.
Benefits: Good for last-minute treatments because of faster onset time; ideal for treating larger areas (i.e. the forehead) because of diffusion
Onset: 24 hours
Results Last: 3-4 months
Average Units: 50 for forehead treatment
Drawbacks: Not suitable for small areas or patients with an allergy to lactose or cow's milk protein

FDA approved February 2019
Jeuveau® has a similar safety and efficacy profile to Botox®. Patients generally begin to see results in three to five days, and they last for 3-6 months.
Benefits: More affordable
Onset: 3-5 days
Results Last: 3-6 months
Average Units: 20 for forehead treatment
Drawbacks: Newest to market, so long-term safety and efficacy profiles have not been established

FDA approved February 2019
Xeomin® doesn’t need to be refrigerated and it may be slightly more comfortable to have injected because it is stored at room temperature.
Fewer units of Xeomin® may be needed to achieve the desired result.
Benefits: Ideal for patients who have stopped responding to Botox® or Dysport®
Onset: 5-7 days
Results Last: 3-4 months
Average Units: 20 for forehead treatment
Drawbacks: Longer onset time
